Malaysian political, economic and industry review for market entry assessment for an Australian-based international general insurance group

The client wanted to leverage its success in Australia and New Zealand to expand into Eastern and Southeast Asian markets. The company required a market assessment and market-entry strategy development for the target markets.

Ethos was responsible for conducting the assessment and developing the Strategy for Malaysia.

Ethos Contributions:

  • Conducted an assessment of the insurance market in Malaysia, analysing future areas of growth, areas of risk, key players and their competitive advantage, regulatory direction etc.;
  • Developed the client’s entry strategy into Malaysia and identified potential alliances and potential acquisition targets;
  • Developed a political “power-map” to assist the client to understand key influencers and decision makers that would need to be actively engaged in order to increase the chances of obtaining approval to operate in Malaysia;
  • Engaged with key stakeholders e.g. Bank Negara and potential business alliances on the client’s behalf.
